CHAPTER TWELVE
I crawled off of the doctorâs bed after just having an abortion. My stomach was cramping terribly and I was alone. I placed my panties on and put the pad in the seat of them before sliding into my sweatpants and t-shirt. The doctor said I would need to wear sanitary napkins for the next three days.
I was broken hearted.
Something happened to me after I had the abortion. I realized that although I loved Mickey, I was done with the emotional games. I didnât know how I was going to move on alone but for the first time I was willing to seriously try.
After getting dressed I lay down in the recovery room for thirty minutes and thought about my birthday weekend. It seemed like shit was happening in my world back to back. First I found out Larry fucked Josie. Then I found out Josie was a snake. And then I found out Mickey had reserved and appointment for me to abort our baby. He told me he was taking me out to eat and when the car stopped I ended up here.
Nothing about this past weekend felt like my birthday. I spent most of the time in my bedroom thinking about my life. It didnât matter that Larry and Josie were there. In a weird change of events Mickey and Larry hung out more, and Josie acted as their comic relief, laughing at everything they said. It was as if I didnât matter to any of them. So the day they caught the plane back home I didnât even say goodbye.
I was just getting comfortable in the recovery room when Mickey texted me and said he was outside. Slowly I rolled myself off of the bed and put my tennis shoes on.
After getting checked out I walked slowly to his black Benz and slid in the backseat so that I could lie down.
âWhat are you doing?â he asked adjusting his mirror so that he could see me.
âI want to lay down, Mickey. Iâm still in pain.â
âWell I ainât no chauffeur,â he griped. âCome up to the front and sit next to me.â
I seriously couldnât wait to get away from this bitch ass nigga. I slid out of the back and was about to sit in the front when I saw a red box with a gold bow on top. My eyes widened and I picked it up sat down and closed the door behind me.
âWhat is this, Mickey?â I asked with one hand over my mouth.
âYou already know.â He winked. âAll I want to know is your answer.â
I took the lid off of the box and stared down at the most beautiful ring Iâd ever seen in my life. It was spectacular. The only thing was I didnât feel like I thought I would when this day came. There wasnât any major emotion or tears. I was justâ¦justâ¦there.
âWell?â he asked. âYou gonna be my wife?â
What was that in his teeth? And why did his breath stink? I was too busy focused on other stuff.
